The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, has called on the Ibadan Brewery of the Nigerian Breweries PLC to explore more Town-Gown relationships for both the industry and the academia to benefit immensely from one another.
He made this call while receiving a team from the Ibadan Brewery in his office during a courtesy visit.
Professor Adebowale expressed his joy in receiving the Brewery Manager, Mr Seun Akinwale, one of his former students and, therefore, an alumnus of the University of Ibadan.
The Vice-Chancellor said the University of Ibadan has a long-existing relationship with the Nigerian Breweries PLC through its many alumni who are employees of the company and in the areas of research.
He appreciated the Nigerian Brewery PLC for its benefaction to the University in the last few years by supplying the Teaching and Research Farm with brewery waste as feeds for pigs and cattle.
The Vice-Chancellor said the supply of brewery waste should be extended to the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Management as feeds for fishes.
He also urged the NB PLC. to help provide SIWES placements and Industrial Attachment for UI students to enable them to acquire practical experience in addition to the theories learnt in the school.
He noted that this visit will no doubt give the University and the Nigerian Breweries the opportunity to broaden the relationship that had hitherto existed.
Mr. Seun Akinwale explained that the visit was to see on a first-hand basis, the use to which the brewery waste was being put and assured that there was room for further collaboration with the University of Ibadan.
He said a synergy should be created between the industry and academia by encouraging workable programmes.
