FG Approves Kogi’s Proposal for International Airport

The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has granted approval for the Kogi State Government to construct an international airport in the Zariagi community.

In a press release on Friday, State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, revealed that the approval was communicated in a letter dated October 9, 2024.

Fanwo emphasized that Governor Usman Ododo’s administration is committed to the project’s timely completion while adhering to all regulatory standards. He noted that the airport would not only serve Kogi State but also benefit ten other states, alleviating traffic on the Lokoja-Abuja road and reducing congestion at Abuja’s International Airport.

“The Ododo administration considers establishing an international airport a top priority, aiming to position Kogi as a key aviation hub. The state’s strategic location provides a significant advantage in tapping into the aviation service market as the center of the nation,” he stated.

Fanwo added that the project would enhance the state’s economy, create jobs, and elevate its profile on the global stage. He affirmed the governor’s commitment to engaging top industry professionals to ensure the project’s success, highlighting that aviation relies heavily on trust and adherence to standards.

The Commissioner expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Aviation Minister for the historic approval that will further advance Kogi State’s development. He also mentioned that the airport would include cargo capacity, which is a key focus of the project.

Fanwo reassured the people of Kogi State that the Ododo administration will continue to implement impactful projects to build on the achievements of the past eight years. He noted that Zariagi is a strategic community with an existing airstrip, and the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development team was pleased with the proposed location and plans.
