NDE Clarifies Youth Engagement Numbers: 93,731, Not 900,000
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) clarified on Monday that its recently launched online portal will engage 93,731 youths in skills development, contrary to the erroneous figure of 900,000 reported by an online source.
In a statement from Edmund Onwuliri, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, the NDE confirmed that the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative aims to support this targeted number of individuals.
Onwuliri noted that the initiative includes an online registration process for unskilled and unemployed Nigerians, with plans to involve at least 10 participants from each electoral ward across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, ensuring fair representation.
The program features 30 different skill sets and includes provisions for women and individuals with special needs. To avoid scams, the agency urged prospective applicants to use the official registration portals: www.nde.gov.ng and www.nderegistrationportal.ng.
Due to high demand, the NDE has extended the registration deadline by an additional 48 hours, with final submissions due by midnight on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. The agency encourages the public to rely on verified information from official channels and emphasized its commitment to reducing unemployment through strategic skills development.
