Kogi Govt Approves N600 Million for WAEC Fees for Public School Students

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo has authorized the allocation of N600 million to cover the 2024/2025 WAEC fees for 18,734 students in public secondary schools across the state.

The announcement was made by Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones, during a press briefing in his office on Tuesday. He confirmed that the state government would be responsible for paying the WAEC fees, aligning with the law enacted by the state government that provides free examination fees for public school students.

Jones explained that this law mandates the government to cover all internal and external examination costs for students in public primary schools. “For the 2024/2025 WAEC, we sought the Governor’s approval in accordance with this law to pay for the 18,734 students,” he stated.

This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on citizens, parents, and guardians while addressing the issue of out-of-school children and promoting 100% completion rates at this educational level.

The Commissioner expressed gratitude to school principals for their support last year but cautioned those who might attempt to undermine the government’s intentions, warning of severe consequences for any misconduct.
