EFCC Summons Foreign Groom and Guests Over Naira Spraying at Kano Wedding

By Fly Cable News

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Ibrahim Mohammad, a Nigerien national, along with his family and other guests, following a viral video showing naira notes being sprayed at his wedding in Kano. The incident, which drew public backlash, is part of the EFCC’s ongoing crackdown on currency abuse.

Initially, reports mistakenly linked the naira-spraying to the wedding of Fauziya Danjuma Goje, the daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje. However, EFCC investigations confirmed that the incident actually occurred at the wedding of Amina Babagana Zannah, daughter of Hajara Seidu Haruna, the CEO of Hafsat Jewellery Enterprise. Haruna confirmed that the groom’s family, from Niger Republic, had sprayed both naira and dollar bills during the event.

The EFCC, in a statement from its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, emphasized its commitment to enforcing currency regulations and taking action against anyone violating the rules, regardless of their status or nationality. The commission urged the public to remain vigilant and confirmed it would not act on any wrongful accusations, ensuring that justice is served in such cases.

The EFCC has invited Mohammad and others involved in the incident to appear at its headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.
