Obaseki Pardons 10 Inmates, Hands Over to Okpebholo Today

By Fly Cable News

Outgoing Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, granted clemency to 10 inmates with less than a year left on their sentences, in an exercise of his prerogative of mercy.

The pardoned individuals include Igwe Kelechukwu, Esazobor Ohioze, and Gift Osaretun, among others. This decision followed a recommendation from the Edo State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, chaired by Justice P.O. Isibor (retd).

Obaseki, who ends his tenure on Monday, will formally hand over power to the newly elected Governor, Monday Okpebholo, today, following Okpebholo’s victory in the September 2024 gubernatorial election.

The inauguration ceremony will take place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, with notable political figures, including APC governors and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, expected to attend. However, Obaseki has stated he will not be attending the event, as he was not invited.
