By Fly Cable News

The Federal Government has paid tribute to the late Abibat Mogaji, mother of President Bola Tinubu, by naming the ICT block at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development (MBNCWD) in her honor.

At the unveiling ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday, Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, praised Mogaji as a determined matriarch and an ardent advocate for women’s empowerment. She emphasized that Mogaji’s life exemplified the relentless pursuit of women’s upliftment.

“We are here today to celebrate the exceptional values of gender equality, women’s empowerment, and the humanitarian work carried out by the late Chief Alhaja Abibat Mogaji. She embodied a deep commitment to advancing women and creating a compassionate society where no one is left behind,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim said.

As the new name of the ICT block was unveiled, the minister called it a symbol of the country’s continued commitment to championing the rights of women and recognizing their contributions to society. “Let this block serve as a reminder of our pledge to build a society where every woman and child can thrive with dignity and pride,” she added.

The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Hajiya Nana Shettima, also spoke at the event, stressing the transformative role of technology in empowering women. “Access to information and communication technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity for women’s development,” she remarked.

Dr. Asabe Vilita-Bashir, Director General of MBNCWD, highlighted Mogaji’s advocacy for economic empowerment and grassroots development, noting that the ICT block would serve as a constant reminder of the need for inclusive programs that benefit all women.

Mrs. Felicia Sani, President of the Nigeria Market Women Association, praised Mogaji as an influential mobilizer and advocate for women’s economic growth. She urged the government to establish international markets nationwide to empower women and generate revenue for the country. (NAN)
