Plateau Govt, Police Deny Explosion Reports in Jos

The Plateau State Government and the police have refuted reports of an explosion in Jos, the state capital, describing the incident as a false alarm and a bomb scare.

This follows widespread panic on Tuesday morning after reports of a blast near the busy Terminus market area around 10:30 am. Eyewitnesses claimed that emergency services, including the police, fire department, and ambulances, rushed to the scene.

However, Gyang Bere, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, clarified in an interview that there was no explosion. “There was no explosion in Jos today. It was simply a bomb scare. People noticed a pile of polythene bags, which triggered the alarm. The bomb squad was called, and after inspecting the area, they found nothing,” Bere explained. He reassured the public, saying, “There was no danger. People are now going about their normal activities, and the road is clear.”

Similarly, the Plateau State Police, led by Public Relations Officer Alfred Alabo, also dismissed the rumors. Alabo confirmed that the police had received reports of an alleged Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on Murtala Way, Jos, but after the Anti-Bomb Squad conducted a thorough search, the area was declared safe.

“The area was cordoned off, and no explosive device was found,” he stated, emphasizing that the situation was under control and no threat was present.
