Reports from Sokoto indicate that Nigerian Army troops are engaged in a fierce gun battle with bandits led by the notorious Bello Turji in the Sabon Birni area of the state.
A senior consultant and public affairs analyst, Abdulsalam Suleiman Izuagbe, confirmed the clash to on Thursday, noting that the conflict has made the route from Shinkafi to Sabon Birni unsafe for travelers.
Izuagbe stated, “There is an ongoing war in Sabon Birni; Bello Turji is in direct confrontation with the Nigerian Army as we speak. The area is not safe, and traveling from Shinkafi to Sabon Birni is highly dangerous right now. It’s not business as usual.”
As of the time of this report, Sokoto State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, had yet to respond to calls or messages seeking further details.
