MainPower to Launch Comprehensive Metering Program to End Estimated Billing

By Fly Cable News

Dr. Ernest Mupwaya, Managing Director of MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL), has announced the company’s plan to roll out a comprehensive metering initiative in Enugu State to eliminate estimated billing.

Speaking at a stakeholder engagement on Wednesday, Dr. Mupwaya outlined the company’s commitment to providing reliable power and improving customer service.

The metering program will begin next week, prioritizing free installations in high-loss areas, with the aim of metering all customers by 2027. This effort is designed to ensure billing accuracy, promote fairness, and encourage energy conservation.

Dr. Mupwaya emphasized that the move is central to MainPower’s service improvement strategy and will help build customer trust and strengthen revenue.

As a subsidiary of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), MainPower aims to address the region’s unique power needs, focusing on efficiency, transparency, and customer engagement.

The company also plans to achieve a 24/7 power supply across Enugu State within three years, with a phased approach starting in urban and commercial areas.

MainPower is working with private investors and independent power producers (IPPs) to boost infrastructure and accelerate metering installations. Engr.

Chinedum Ukabara, Commissioner of the Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC), expressed support for these reforms, urging customers to stay current with their bill payments to ensure the success of the initiative.
