By Fly Cable News

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, fspsp, FAS, has reiterated that music plays essential roles in human societies, serving as a cognitive, cultural, and emotional tool.

Professor Adebowale said the tradition of the University to include music in the celebration of the Foundation Day brings together members of the University community as well as lovers of music from outside the campus thereby facilitating sociability and potential networking among individuals.

Professor Adebowale, who spoke at the UI @76: Night of Music
stated that
studies have shown that music encourages interaction and bonding among participants, helping to reinforce social ties during celebrations.

He further affirmed that music helps people to forget about troubles, erases social hierarchy, and gives individuals an equal level of artistic experience, regardless of the position they hold outside the musical gathering.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that the essence of music in the Foundation Day celebration transcends mere entertainment but serves the purpose of bringing the University community together to enjoy a collective artistic experience while also sharing common emotional expression.

The Night of Music enables the Department of Music to showcase the talents of its staff and students.

This year’s presentation featured choir rendition of melodious tunes, orchestra, pop, prolific band, fuji and dance performances.
