LASG Launches Eko Job Centre, To Boost Employment Opportunities

The Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment has taken a significant step towards empowering youths in the state by renovating the Eko Job Centre in Owutu, Ikorodu. This initiative is part of a joint effort with international partners, including the German Embassy’s Development Cooperation, Swiss Agency for Development, and GIZ SKYE, to provide a robust platform for job seekers to acquire essential skills and thrive in today’s dynamic job market.
The State of Art facility at the EKO Job Centre includes two large rooms with modern-day computers for learning.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his commitment to empowering Lagos State’s youth through the newly renovated Eko Job Centre at Owutu, Ikorodu. Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, He emphasized the State Government’s dedication to providing youths with state-of-the-art facilities for financial sustainability.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision for the Eko Job Centre is to create a robust economy, making Lagos State an economic hub. This initiative is part of a joint effort with international partners, including the Development Cooperation of the German Embassy, Swiss Agency for Development, and GIZ SKYE. By providing a platform for job seekers to acquire essential skills.

He reiterated that the Eko Job Centre showcases his administration’s dedication to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to build a future and contribute to the state’s revenue. With this initiative, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is poised to make Lagos State a leading economic hub in Nigeria

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Wealth creation and Employment, Hon. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe stated that the collaboration with GIZ exemplifies the power and importance of partnership in addressing the pressing challenges of unemployment and underemployment in the State.

The Commissioner explained that the newly renovated EKO job centre is equipped with modern facilities and resources designed to assist individuals in their job search and career development. He added that the EKO Job Centre will also serve as a hub for training programmes, workshops, and information sessions, connecting aspiring job seekers with employers and providing the necessary tools to enhance employability.

In his remarks, Dr. Karin Jason, Head of Development Cooperation, German Embassy, noted that putting structures in place at Eko job centre will help to increase the number of skilled workers piloting developed training standards.

Mrs. Folashade Alabi, Director of Employment in the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment expatiate on the Five Job centres supervised by the Ministry which are located at Oshodi, Ojo, Epe, Eti-Osa, Ikorodu Local governments.

The event was attended by dignitaries including the Chairman, House Committee on Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon. Stella Foluke Osafile; the Consul General Consulate of Switzerland in Lagos, Mr. Frank Eggmann and GIZ Country Director Nigeria and ECOWAS, Dr. Markus Wagner, Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye Member Lagos State Assembly, Ikorodu constituency 1, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje SA to the Governor on Rural Development and Chieftaincy.

Others are the Chairman Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregriano, represented by Mr. Adedeji Moruf; Director, Teaching Service Staff Development Centre, Ikorodu and the Chairman Ikorodu West, LCDA, Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, represented by Hon. Adesegun Aluko, Vice Chairman, Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon. Saheed Tijani SSA to the Governor on Wealth Creation and Employment.
