Accord Party Expels Former Presidential Candidate and Others for Misconduct

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of Accord has approved the expulsion and suspension of several party members following a review of their conduct.

This decision was announced in a communique read by the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, and National Secretary, Adebukola A. Ajaja, after a meeting at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

The NEC acted on the findings of a 7-member Disciplinary Committee, established by the National Working Committee (NWC) to investigate allegations of serious misconduct, anti-party activities, and violations of the party’s constitution.

As a result, the NEC expelled eight members and suspended three others for breaching Article 20A (vii), (ix), (xiii), and 20A (1) of the party’s constitution.

The expelled members include:
– Professor Christopher Imumolen, former presidential candidate
– Comrade Lanre Ogundare, Lagos State chairman
– Surajo Ibrahim, Zamfara State chairman
– Muktar Abdalla, Borno State chairman
– Chief Abiola Samuel Odeoba, former Ekiti State chairman
– Dr. Falaye Ajibola, former Ondo State chairman
– Prince Adebisi Wale Ganiy
– Dzingina Jacob Ephraim, Nasarawa State chairman

Those suspended are:
– Salimu Lawal Boyi, Katsina State chairman
– Fatima Mohammed Zarumi, Acting Yobe State chairman
– Abdullahi Isa Kasowa, Bauchi State chairman

The NEC underscored the importance of upholding discipline within the party to prevent chaos and safeguard the party’s constitution. The committee emphasized the necessity of adherence to party rules, stressing that the party must remain supreme.

Additionally, the NEC passed a vote of confidence in Maxwell Mgbudem as the legitimate National Chairman of the party. The committee also welcomed back members who were allegedly misled by the expelled Professor Imumolen, who was accused of instigating a rebellion aimed at destabilizing the party and tarnishing its reputation.

The NEC reassured members that there are no factions within the party and reminded them that a court ruling had voided the temporary order obtained by Imumolen, which had expired on September 4, 2024. The ruling also ordered the expulsion of individuals who had taken control of the party’s national secretariat on August 31, 2024.

Following these actions, the expelled members vacated the Accord National Secretariat, ending their attempt to destabilize the party.

The Disciplinary Committee was chaired by Emeka Uwakolam, with other members including Bishop Benson Ijachi, Gabriel Almond Kubua, Yusuf A. Training, Hassan Bello, Ndubuisi Paschal Ani, and Adeniyi A. Philip.
