FG Commends Ghana for Rebuilding Nigeria High Commission’s Property in Accra

By Fly Cable News

The Federal Government has praised the Republic of Ghana for rebuilding and formally handing over a property belonging to the Nigerian High Commission in Accra.

A statement issued by Kimiebi Ebienfa, the acting spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed the handover ceremony took place on Wednesday.

The property, which is a block of four-bedroom flats, was demolished in 2020 by Ghanaian authorities, an action that was strongly condemned by the Nigerian government. Following diplomatic discussions, the Ghanaian government promised to rebuild the property, a commitment now fulfilled.

Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Mrs. Shirley Botchway, handed over the keys to the newly reconstructed building. Nigeria was represented at the event by Ambassador Chimezie Ogu, Director of the Foreign Service Academy in Lagos, who accepted the property on behalf of the Nigerian government.

The Nigerian government praised Ghana for this gesture, which it described as a demonstration of the country’s dedication to strengthening bilateral relations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted that the reconstructed building stands as a symbol of the cooperation and mutual respect that defines the relationship between Nigeria and Ghana.

The FG expressed its gratitude for Ghana’s actions and reaffirmed the importance of continued collaboration to further enhance the long-standing friendship between the two nations.
