Delta North Monarchs Unite to Tackle Insecurity in the Region

Traditional rulers from Delta North have gathered to form a unified front to combat rising insecurity in the state.

The meeting, which took place on Thursday at the palace of the Obi of Owa Kingdom, HRM Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, brought together royal fathers from the nine Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Delta North. The gathering was aimed at addressing the growing concerns of kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities affecting the region and the state as a whole.

During the meeting, the monarchs agreed to put aside any existing differences and focus on the shared goal of fostering peace, unity, and accelerated development for Delta North and the entire state. They expressed deep concern over the increasing violence in their communities and emphasized the need for collaboration with security agencies and the state government.

In his opening speech, Dr. Efeizomor II, who also chairs the Delta North Traditional Rulers Forum, urged his colleagues to set aside personal disagreements and prioritize the well-being of the people. He stressed that the unity of the traditional rulers was critical to addressing the region’s challenges and ensuring its sustainable progress. He also appealed for forgiveness and sacrifice, reminding his peers that the region’s security and future development depended on their collective efforts.

Dr. Efeizomor also warned that the lack of unity among the royal fathers could jeopardize their influence, particularly with the departure of a prominent son of the region from the governor’s office.

The Obi of Ubulu-Unor, HRM Dr. Henry Kikachukwu I, Second Vice-Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, echoed the call for unity, emphasizing the importance of sacrifice and cooperation.

Chief Benjamin Elue, former Deputy Governor of Delta State, also commended the monarchs and urged them to rise above partisanship in their efforts to guide the region toward good governance and development.

The Obi of Abavo, HRM Uche Irenuma II, praised former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for fostering unity among the Delta North traditional rulers and stressed the need for fairness in the allocation of key positions among the nine LGAs.

The meeting concluded with the appointment of interim officers to oversee the affairs of the Delta North Traditional Rulers Forum for the next three months. The newly appointed interim executive members include:

Assistant Secretary: Obi of Idumuje-Unor, Obi Charles Anyasi III

The interim leadership will serve for three months, after which new elections will be held to select a permanent leadership.
