FG Extends Consultations on E-Governance Bill to Kebbi and Three Other States

By Fly Cable News

The Federal Government is expanding its consultations on the Digital Economy and e-Governance Bill to four additional states this week, following earlier engagements in 16 states. These consultations are aimed at gathering input from across the country to help shape the legal framework for Nigeria’s digital economy.
Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, announced in a statement on Monday that the upcoming consultations will be held in Kebbi, Oyo, Anambra, and Sokoto.

Tijani explained, “So far, we have engaged with 16 states, and next week we will be visiting four more—Kebbi, Oyo, Anambra, and Sokoto. The feedback from these sessions has been very positive, and I appreciate the support from state governments and stakeholders.”

These consultations are part of a broader effort to ensure that the proposed bill addresses the diverse needs of Nigeria’s digital ecosystem. The bill, which is funded by the World Bank, aims to improve data interoperability, enhance digital services, and provide better access to government data for the private sector. Once passed, it is expected to significantly boost the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy.

The National Assembly has been actively involved in the bill’s development, with Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, Chair of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, and Adedeji Olajide, Chair of the House Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, working alongside the Ministry to ensure an inclusive process.
