Police Begin Crackdown on Tinted Windows and Covered Number Plates in FCT

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched a crackdown on vehicles with tinted windows and obscured number plates as part of efforts to reduce criminal activities such as kidnapping.

In a statement released late Tuesday, police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh warned vehicle owners to remove tinted windows or face impoundment.

The ban on tinted glasses is being enforced to address rising criminal activities, including “one chance” incidents. FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, highlighted that many victims rescued from kidnappers mentioned that tinted windows made it difficult for others to identify their distress. Criminals also exploit covered number plates to carry out unlawful activities without being traced.

The police have made it clear that they will rigorously enforce the ban on tinted windows, covered plates, and unregistered vehicles to curb crime. As of Tuesday, 296 vehicles had already been impounded for violating these regulations in the FCT.
