UBA to Expand Across Africa, Open Saudi Branch in 2025

The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group has revealed plans to expand its operations in Africa and open a new branch in Saudi Arabia in 2025.

This announcement was made by UBA’s Group Managing Director and CEO, Oliver Alawuba, during a farewell dinner held in Abuja to honor the bank’s retired non-executive directors.

Alawuba also shared that UBA currently employs over 25,000 staff and serves more than 45 million customers across 24 countries. He emphasized the lasting legacy of the bank, noting, “The UBA, with over 25,000 staff and 45 million customers, is the legacy you have contributed to. This UBA will continue to thrive for generations.”

He reassured customers of UBA’s commitment to building a sustainable institution, adding, “Our chairman recently visited Saudi Arabia and announced that UBA will establish a presence there next year. We will also be opening more subsidiaries across Africa to ensure continued growth and strength.”

At the event, UBA Chairman Tony Elumelu praised the retired directors and their families for their dedication and contributions, describing UBA as more than just a bank, but a family. He thanked the retirees for their instrumental role in the bank’s success both in Nigeria and internationally.

One of the retirees, Kayode Fashola, shared his appreciation for Elumelu’s trust in him, recalling how Elumelu appointed him to key roles despite being a newcomer. “To work with Elumelu, you must be committed, dedicated, skilled, and loyal,” Fashola said. “He entrusted me with significant responsibilities, and never interfered with my work.”
