Security Forces Block Journalists from Covering Zamfara Gov’s 2025 Budget Presentation

On Thursday, security operatives at the Zamfara State Government House prevented journalists from covering the 2025 budget presentation at the State House of Assembly.

Journalists arrived at the Assembly Complex for the scheduled event, set to begin at 10:00 a.m., but were denied access by the security personnel. All entrances to the chamber were blocked, and the journalists were not allowed to enter.

Despite appeals from the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the security officials remained firm in their decision to bar the journalists. Idris attempted to reason with them, but they refused to relent.

A DSS officer overseeing the security detail made it clear that the journalists would not be permitted into the chamber and instructed his team not to allow them entry.

Sources within the Assembly Complex suggested the security action was intentional, noting that the lawmakers had not met the necessary quorum to welcome Governor Dauda Lawal for the budget presentation. Of the 24 members, only eight were present in the chamber at the time.
