The National Executive Council (NEC) of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) has maintained Chief Alaka Yusuf as the president of the Lagos state chapter, urging members to disregard purported fake suspension letters.
 

This is contained in a statement signed by its National President, Hajia Samira Jibir, and National Secretary, Dr. Kayode Adeyemi, said,condemn a fraudulent letter dated December 2, 2024, claiming to suspend Chief Alaka Yusuf and the Lagos State Executive Council of NAPPS, claiming it is false and illegitimate.  
 

“We strongly appeal to all individuals involved, including our valued members, stakeholders, relevant government agencies, private organisations, and the general public, to completely ignore and discredit the information contained in the fraudulent suspension letter that has been circulating. It is crucial that no one engages or cooperates with the unauthorised persons responsible for this false communication. We emphasise the importance of verifying any directives or communications through the proper and official channels associated with the National Executive Council to avoid any misinformation or confusion, NEC body reacts.
 

According to the body, categorically disassociate the authentic NAPPS NEC from the content, intent, and actions described in the said letter. This notice is issued to clarify the following: “Chief Alaka Yusuf and the Lagos State Executive Council remain in office and have the full support and recognition of the authentic National Executive Council of NAPPS, Nigeria. For the avoidance of doubts, Chief Alaka-Yusuf Lukman was elected and sworn in as Chairman of NAPPS, Lagos State, with the 2017 constitution of our noble Association, and has been fulfilling the responsibilities in that capacity to the National Executive Council, including attendance of the 17th NAPPS Annual National Conference in November, 2024, held at Baze University, Abuja, under the leadership of NAPPS National President Hajia Samira Jibir, PhD. Any claims to the contrary are null, void, and intended to disrupt the unity of the association.”
 

The NEC explained that the individuals who were once the driving force behind this initiative and the creators of this deceitful document are no longer part of the National Executive Council of NAPPS, as their four-year term concluded in November 2023. It is imperative that they refrain from presenting themselves as current NEC members or disseminating unauthorised information. Legal proceedings related to contempt of court are currently in motion to address their illegal actions and to safeguard the dignity and credibility of NAPPS.
 

Furthermore, it is important to note that the established procedures within the NAPPS Constitution, which are designed to manage conflicts and discipline members, were egregiously ignored by those responsible for the fraudulent letter. This behaviour represents a significant breach of our organisation’s core values and the fundamental principles that guide our governance.
 

According to NEC, the individuals responsible for issuing the suspension letter are not recognised members of the NAPPS National Executive Council or any authorised structure of the association. They are acting without legal authority and in contravention of the NAPPS Constitution, as registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), which they went to tamper with, in contempt of a subsisting court process at the Federal High Court, Lagos, suit FHL/L/CS/279/2024, and a subject of investigation at the Corporate Affairs Commission.
 

The National Executive Council is committed to maintaining transparency, accountability, and unity within NAPPS. We encourage all members to remain steadfast in their dedication to the values and objectives of our association.
 

In his reaction, Alaka, who spoke with FLY CABLE NEWS in a phone interview, said, “The letter originates from a seemingly pretentious and obscure group that has opted to align themselves with the recently suspended former president, Chief Yomi Otubela. Despite his tenure officially concluding in October 2023, Chief Otubela is unwilling to relinquish his position. His ambitions include retaining the role of national president and gaining control over the Board of Trustees, which would position him as the ultimate authority within NAPPS. 
 

He accused Otubale of integrating the NAPPS cooperative into his personal office, transforming it into a hub where meetings are conducted, financial distributions are made, and various projects are managed. Established in 2008, the NAPPS cooperative has faced challenges such as lacking a formal secretariat, with its financial records predominantly handled by just one or two individuals, raising concerns about transparency and proper governance.
 

Alaka explained that in February, at Braze University in Abuja, a national conference was organised where five executive members, including myself, represented the Lagos state chapter. These members actively participated in the conference’s numerous activities and also signed the necessary documentation in an effort to demonstrate our dedication and official participation. 
 

However, it is important to mention that Chief Yomi Otubela later initiated a parallel conference, where he positioned himself as the national president. This created a divergence from the officially recognised conference, which was organised by the NAPPS National Executive Council (NEC) under the leadership of Hajia Samira Jibir, as the National President, and Dr. Kayode Adeyemi as the National Secretary. This legitimate gathering was well attended by NEC members, and I was present along with my delegates. On a related note, an international conference took place in Abuja on November 19th and 20th, 2024. For this event, I led a delegation from the Lagos state chapter, which included 27 members, showcasing our commitment to being actively involved at both national and international levels, NAPPS Lagos President noted.
 

Alaka added: Since the establishment of my school in 2005, I have been an active member of NAPPS (National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools). Throughout my journey, I have held various roles, culminating in my current position as the president of NAPPS in Lagos State. In all these years, I have never encountered a situation where members are coerced into signing letters of loyalty. A true servant leader does not need to compel allegiance; rather, they inspire it through exemplary behaviour, drawing followers naturally. 
 

Alaka, There are accusations claiming that I failed to honour an invitation, but I question the validity of such a claim. Who exactly issued and extended this invitation? To my knowledge, I have never received any kind of invitation or summons from my leaders. It was therefore a significant honour for me to simply participate in and conclude the recent conference. Moreover, I have never been called upon to answer any questions. If that were the case, I doubt I would have been recognised and awarded the Best Leader Award in the Southwest, along with a trophy and plaque for my contributions.
 

Meanwhile, the NAPPS Lagos state chapter has also declared and stands behind Chief Alaka Yusuf Lukman as its president, and the 2017 constitution we stand behind.
