NOA LAGOS HOLDS TOWN HALL MEETING ON INSECURITY AND GET-RICH-QUICK SYNDROME

Owing to the drastic increase in criminal activities, insecurity, cybercrimes, lawlessness and related vices in the country, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lagos State has organized a town hall meeting on December 6, 2024 to sensitize stakeholders on raising the level of security consciousness and the fight against getting-rich-quick syndrome as well as on HIV/AIDS and benefits of the proposed tax reform being initiated by the Federal Government.

At a colourful event held at the Ikeja Local Government Hall, the NOA State Director, Dr. Mustafa Adedeji Tukur in his opening remark explained some measures put in place by the government to halt HIV/AIDS and reposition the economy for sustainable growth. He admonished participants to join the government to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and the mentality of wanting to get rich quick by many of our youths which he noted has led to increase in crime especially ritual killings and kidnappings in the country.
While laying emphasis on the negative effects of the scourge, Dr Tukur admonished stakeholders to conscious of their environment and report any strange or awkward movements to appropriate Security Agencies and also encourage them to educate people around them to shun all forms of vices that are dangerous and capable of destroying their lives. He reiterated some of the measures already put in place by the government to strengthen security and urged the media and the stakeholders to support the Agency in the campaign to ensuring peace and stability and eradicating these forms of negative vices in the country.

One of the resource persons at the stakeholders forum, Dr. Marcus Okotete, Chairman National Association of Surface Tank Oil and Gas Retailer of Nigeria (NASTOGRN) spoke to participants on how to start oil and gas business on a small scale and mention some opportunities and the requirement to obtain license in oil and gas.
In his remark, Prince Adekunle Apena, the Regeant of Ikeja applauded the Federal Government policies and programmes and implored the government to provide subsidy to producers to prevent consumers from paying indirect tax.

The Vice Chairman of ikeja local Government, Honourable Yomi Mayungbe commended the Agency for the sensitization exercise and urged participants to be very vigilant in their environment and not leave security issues to the government alone.

Other NOA officials at the campaign werethe Deputy Director, Planning Research and Strategy (PRS), Mr Cosmas Olatunde Oluyemo, the Assistant Director/Community Orientation and Mobilisation Officer in ikeja Local Government office of the Agency, Mrs. Dawodu Biodun and some senior staff. Among other stakeholders that attended the programme were Hajia Adefolami Taibat, CDC Chairperson in Ikeja, Alhaji Abdullahi, Seriki Hausawa, Ikeja Local Government.
