The Gombe State Police Command has arrested several suspects in connection with the death of one individual during a clash between youths and Fulani herders in Lano Village, Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area, on Saturday.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi, the conflict began when youths in Lano village barricaded the Lano-Deba Road and allegedly attacked herders passing through from Kuri village, killing five of their cows. The youths reportedly accused the herdsmen of stealing phones from farmers and hindering the transportation of farm produce.
Abdullahi explained that upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer and his team were dispatched to the area to manage the situation. Despite their efforts to restore peace, some youths pursued the herders into the bush, resulting in a violent confrontation.
During the clash, three individuals were shot with bows and arrows and were initially treated at the General Hospital in Deba before being transferred to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe. Tragically, one of the victims died from stomach injuries, while the other two remain in the hospital.
The police are continuing their investigation into the incident and are working to apprehend other suspects who fled the scene.
Abdullahi emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation and assured the public that updates on the matter would be provided once the remaining suspects are apprehended.
