Abia Governor Otti Proposes N750.2bn Budget for 2025

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has presented a N750.2 billion 2025 budget to the Abia State House of Assembly for review and approval.

During his presentation to the Assembly, led by Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa, Governor Otti emphasized his administration’s commitment to prudent management of the 2024 budget, which he said facilitated the state’s transformation across various sectors.

In the proposed 2025 budget, N611.7 billion (82%) is allocated for capital projects, while N138.6 billion (18%) is earmarked for recurrent expenses. Notably, education and health receive significant allocations of 20% and 15%, respectively.

Governor Otti highlighted a 30% increase in the 2025 budget compared to the previous year and reiterated his administration’s focus on continuing reforms in health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and security.

Key provisions include N13 billion for agro-industrial processing zones in Ukwa, Bende, and Umunnochi, and N14.6 billion for establishing libraries and reading rooms across 184 wards.

Additionally, N18.9 billion has been set aside for social benefits. The governor also mentioned the recovery of several state-owned agricultural assets from private entities, ensuring returns to the state.

Otti reaffirmed that securing the lives and property of citizens remains his top priority, expressing regret over the loss of security personnel and innocent civilians to criminal elements.
