Ifeanyichukwu Eze, the personal assistant to Chinedu Onah, Deputy Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, has died following a road accident on the Abakaliki-Enugu Expressway.
The incident, confirmed by Chinonso Nwede, secretary of the Deputy Speaker’s Legislative Aides Forum, occurred while Mr. Eze was returning from a funeral wake alongside three other legislative aides and another individual.
Mr. Nwede explained that the wake was held in solidarity with a friend mourning the loss of his mother, whose funeral took place on 11 January. Tragically, Mr. Eze succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The four others involved in the accident are still receiving medical care for various injuries.
Until his death, Mr. Eze also served as the coordinator of the Youth Movement for Governor Francis Nwifuru in the Umuogudu Oshia Ward of Ohaukwu Local Government Area.
Describing Mr. Eze’s passing as a painful loss, Mr. Nwede noted that his colleagues had been preparing to celebrate his recent completion of the National Youth Service Corps program. He highlighted Mr. Eze’s resilience, having lost his mother at a young age and being raised without her care.
“As the only son, his father had placed great hopes in him and was proud to see him grow into a capable individual serving as the personal assistant to the fourth citizen of Ebonyi,” Mr. Nwede said.
He extended condolences to Mr. Eze’s family, particularly his father, and the deputy speaker. He also prayed for the recovery of the other accident victims and strength for Mr. Eze’s family to endure the loss.
