The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has stated that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) requires approximately N2.8 trillion to complete 149 ongoing projects aimed at enhancing electricity transmission nationwide. Adelabu made this revelation during his appearances before power sector committees in the National Assembly to present the Ministry of Power’s 2025 budget proposal.
Additionally, the Minister highlighted the commencement of the second phase of the Siemens power project under the Presidential Power Initiative, with the pilot phase nearing 95% completion in 2024. The project includes the construction of five substations across the country to address Nigeria’s outdated power infrastructure and prevent grid collapses.
Adelabu also emphasized the critical issue of vandalism of power infrastructure, which he identified as a major obstacle to progress.
He called for greater collaboration with security agencies to protect the nation’s power assets, particularly against the rising threat of bandits targeting transmission lines and towers.
