ANTI-ARMS SMUGGLING DIRECTOR KILLED IN CHURCH ATTACK

A pastor and the Director of Anti-Arms Smuggling for the Social Orientation and Safety (So-Safe) Corps in Ogun State, Yomi Adetula, was killed by suspected assassins in Idi-Iroko, Ipokia Local Government Area, on Sunday 19th January 2025. FIJ report the attack occurred in a church on Old Baggage Road, where Adetula was leading worship.

According to witnesses, the assailants entered the church around 10am, armed with guns and other weapons. Witnesses stated that initial gunshots failed to harm Adetula, prompting the attackers to use hammers and machetes to fatally wound him. Images of his disfigured body, seen by FIJ, revealed extensive injuries.

FIJ reports that Adetula had been listed as a witness in its libel defense against IBD Dende. This followed FIJ’s undercover investigation and documentary on smuggling activities. His death raises questions about potential motives connected to his professional activities, FIJ reports.

Local authorities are investigating the incident, while the border community remains in shock over the attack.
