Nigeria’s Junior Female Yellow Greens marked their long-awaited debut at the 2025 ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia with a thrilling two-run victory over New Zealand, a test-playing nation, on Monday.
Despite a rain delay in Sarawak that also disrupted their earlier match against Samoa, the Nigerian team finally took center stage as the game commenced over two hours late, with overs reduced due to weather conditions.
New Zealand won the toss and chose to field, sending the Nigerian batters into action.
Captain Lucky Piety made history by hitting Nigeria’s first six in a Women’s World Cup match, leading her team to score 65 runs for six wickets in 13 overs.
The Junior Yellow Greens delivered a disciplined bowling performance in the second innings, holding the fourth-ranked New Zealand team to 63 runs for six wickets, sealing a memorable victory.
