The Federal Government has unveiled the Youth Farmers Enrollment Portal to create 6 million direct jobs for young people this year through agriculture, food and beverage, and agro-allied sectors.
The government said the initiative would address youth unemployment, household poverty, hunger and food security, which pose a threat to national security.
Youth Development Minister Ayodele Olawande announced the launch of the portal at the weekend in Abuja.
The minister said the portal was developed in partnership with the Nigerian Youth Economic Engagement and De-Radicalisation Programme (NIYEEDEP) to create economic opportunities for youths and bolster the nation’s agricultural sector.
In a statement by the ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Omolara Esan, the minister said: “This intervention is designed to align young people with the economic agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, promoting active youth participation in economic development.”
