FG Names Okonna Acting Rector of Maritime Academy

Dr. Kevin Okonna has been appointed as the acting Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) in Oron, Akwa Ibom, following the resignation of the former rector, Commodore Duja Effedua (rtd).

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday by the Academy’s Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Domo Umoekpe, in Uyo. The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was conveyed through a letter from the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola.

Okonna, a seasoned maritime scholar with nearly three decades of experience at the Academy, has held several key positions, including pioneer Head of the Maritime Safety Department and Director of Strategy and Research. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and a distinguished member of the UK’s Nautical Institute.

The minister expressed confidence in Okonna’s ability to leverage his vast expertise to advance the Academy’s goals and contribute to the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Tinubu.

Umoekpe highlighted Okonna’s significant contributions to the Academy and his credentials from esteemed institutions, including the World Maritime University in Malmo, Sweden.
