UN, Global Leaders Celebrate Ceasefire as Freed Hostages Reunite with Families

By Fly Cable

Three Israeli women held hostage by Hamas have been reunited with their families in Israel, marking a significant step in the newly brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The reunion, witnessed by many in Tel Aviv, sparked cheers and emotional scenes.

The truce, which began after months of intense conflict, facilitated the release of 33 hostages, including British citizen Emily Damari, in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. The exchange took place amidst celebrations in Gaza and the West Bank, where freed prisoners were welcomed with chants and celebrations.

The United Nations and global leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and U.S. President Joe Biden, hailed the agreement as a critical step toward peace. Biden emphasized the effort’s difficulty and its significance as he prepared to leave office.

UN Women described the ceasefire as a moment of relief for the one million women and children in Gaza who endured over 15 months of conflict. They called it a pivotal move toward stability and lasting peace in the region.

The first phase of the truce will span six weeks, during which additional hostages and prisoners are expected to be released, alongside increased humanitarian aid for Gaza. Leaders expressed hope for full implementation of the agreement and progress toward a permanent resolution.
