Ebonyi Govt Threatens Sanctions Against Political Leaders Over Abduction of 5 Villagers

By Fly Cable News

The Ebonyi State Government has condemned the abduction of five villagers amid the ongoing boundary dispute between the Oso Edda community in Edda Local Government Area and the Amasiri community in Afikpo Local Government Area.

During a peace meeting held over the weekend at the Afikpo Local Government Secretariat, Deputy Governor Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila warned that political office holders in the area would face sanctions if the kidnapped individuals were not released immediately.

The meeting was attended by the chairmen of Afikpo and Edda Local Governments, Nwachi Timothy and Hon Chima Ekumankama, along with traditional rulers and other stakeholders. Deputy Governor Obila emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order and questioned why a land dispute should escalate to such extreme actions.

Afikpo LGA Chairman Nwachi Timothy condemned the abduction, which involved three individuals from Amasiri and two from Cross River State. He called for the immediate release of the captives and urged the community’s youth to refrain from violent actions.

In response, Edda LGA Chairman Hon Chima Ekumankama denounced the attack from the Oso community and pledged to investigate the matter. Both local government coordinators, Hon Baron Ogbonnia and Mrs. Nkama Nkama Ude, reiterated their dedication to restoring peace in the region.
