BREAKING: Lagos Speaker Mojisola Meranda Agrees to Resign, Successor to Be Announced Soon

By Fly Cable News

Princess Mojisola Meranda has agreed to step down as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, paving the way for new leadership.

However, reports has it that her official resignation announcement is pending as President Bola Tinubu reviews a list of potential successors submitted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in the state.

Sources reveal that the decision follows consultations with key political figures, including former APC National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande and former Ogun State Governor Aremo Olusegun Osoba.

Meranda assumed office following the removal of Mudashiru Obasa over allegations of corruption and abuse of power. However, Obasa has since challenged his removal in court.

Her resignation is expected to clear the path for a new Speaker from Lagos West, as part of efforts to maintain regional balance in state leadership.

Among the top contenders for the position are:
– Hon. Setonji Samuel David (Badagry 2)
– Hon. Temitope Adewale (Ifako-Ijaye 1)
– Hon. Kehinde Olaide Joseph (Alimosho 2)
– Hon. Richard Adedamola Kasunmu (Ikeja 2)
– Hon. Lukman Saad Olumoh (Ajeromi-Ifelodun 1)
– Hon. Wale Rauf Age Sulaimon (Amuwo-Odofin 2)
– Hon. Nureni Akinsanya (Mushin 1)
– Hon. Surajudeen Tijani (Ojo 2)

This development is said to be influenced by the need for regional representation, as both Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Speaker Meranda hail from Lagos Central. With Lagos West currently lacking a key leadership position, stakeholders insist that the next Speaker should come from the district.
