INEC Reverses Decision, Initiates Recall Process for Senator Natasha Akpoti

By Fly Cable News

In a surprising turn, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reversed its earlier stance and has now started the process to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti from the Senate. This decision comes just 24 hours after the commission initially dismissed the recall votes due to insufficient details provided by her constituents.

Previously, INEC had indicated that additional information—such as home addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers—was necessary to validate the petition. With the required details now submitted, the commission is set to move forward with the recall.

### Updated Statement on the Recall of the Senator Representing Kogi Central Senatorial District

Following yesterday’s update on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, INEC confirms that a letter dated today, Wednesday, March 26, 2025, has been received. This letter includes the complete contact information (addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses) of the petition representatives.

In accordance with Clause 2(a) of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall 2024, a notification letter has been sent to the senator under recall at her official address. A copy of this letter has also been forwarded to the presiding officer of the Senate and published on INEC’s website. The next step is to verify the petition’s signatories to ensure that it has been endorsed by over 50% of the registered voters in the constituency.

This verification process will take place in the coming days, and its outcome will determine the subsequent actions. INEC reassures Nigerians that the process will remain transparent and open.
