LAGOS COUNCIL CHAIRMAN DIES AFTER PROLONGED HEALTH BATTLE
The Executive Chairman of Otto Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Musibau Adekune Ashafa, has d!ed, just weeks before the end of his tenure. He d!ed yesterday, 13th June 2025.
His d£ath was confirmed by Lagos-based broadcaster, Mr. Jide Thompson, in a heartfelt tribute posted this morning on Facebook. According to Thompson, Hon. Ashafa had been battling a yet-to-be-disclosed illness and was initially reported to be responding well to treatment.
Thompson wrote. “A call came in at exactly 11:18 p.m. yesterday, June 13th, to announce your d£ath and that confirmed my fear.”
While the exact cause of d£ath has not yet been officially disclosed, Thompson’s message hinted at a prolonged health battle. “You came, you saw, you fought vigorously, but you lost the battle,” he added, ending his tribute with traditional praise names that reflect Hon. Ashafa’s heritage and deep roots in the Ijanikin community.
Hon. Musibau Ashafa, fondly called “Booda” by close associates, has been Chairman of Otto Awori LCDA since 2017, having served nearly eight years in office. His second term was expected to end next month, with Lagos State’s local government elections scheduled for July 12, 2025.
Known for his firm leadership style and grassroots presence, Ashafa leaves behind a legacy of community-driven governance, infrastructural development, and youth engagement. He was widely respected for his hands-on approach and deep connection to the people of Otto Awori.
Tributes have begun pouring in from political colleagues, community leaders, and residents, mourning the loss of a leader described as selfless, courageous, and deeply committed to his people.
As Lagos prepares for the next round of council elections, the sudden demise of Hon. Ashafa is sure to leave a significant void in the political landscape of the Otto Awori LCDA and the broader Badagry Division.
Funeral arrangements and official statements from the LCDA or Lagos State Government are expected in the coming days.
May His Soul Rest in Perfect Peace 🙏🏻!
