Ogun launches ‘Plastic for Cash’ to tackle pollution, boost recycling
The Ogun State Government has unveiled the Plastic for Cash and Blue Box initiatives to combat plastic pollution and promote recycling.
Environment Commissioner Ola Oresanya announced the programs during the 2024 World Environment Day, saying residents can now exchange plastic waste for cash or other items.
The Blue Box scheme introduces house-to-house waste sorting to boost recycling and ease landfill pressure.
With over 1.6 million metric tonnes of waste generated annually in Ogun, Oresanya said the initiatives aim to drive a circular economy and create jobs, especially for youth and low-income earners.
