U.S. Pauses Certain Weapons Shipments to Ukraine Amid Defense Review

The United States has temporarily halted certain weapons shipments to Ukraine, the White House has confirmed, marking a significant shift in U.S. military support amid an ongoing review by the Department of Defense.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said the decision was made as part of an internal reassessment of U.S. defense priorities, stating the move is aimed at “putting America’s interests first.”

Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the U.S. has sent tens of billions of dollars in military aid to Kyiv. However, concerns have grown within segments of the Trump administration and among some lawmakers about the sustainability of that support—particularly regarding its impact on U.S. defense readiness.

Kelly did not specify which shipments are being paused or how long the halt might last, adding that further details would be released following the completion of the review.

The announcement comes as Ukraine continues to appeal for sustained international support amid intensifying conflict in eastern regions of the country.
