2027 Presidency: Atiku Debunks Stepping Down for Southern Candidate, Blames APC for False Reports

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed claims that he was asked to step down for a southern presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 elections, labeling the reports as “malicious fabrications” and propaganda by the APC.

In a statement released by his media office in Abuja on Tuesday, Atiku stated unequivocally that:

“There was no such meeting. Atiku Abubakar was never in attendance. The entire story is a malicious fabrication — pure fiction cooked up in the propaganda kitchens of the Tinubu-led APC regime.”

He also denied ever being approached with any proposal to step down for a southern candidate, asserting that the story was designed to create division within the opposition ranks.

Atiku, who recently appeared at the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a unifying opposition platform, suggested that the ruling party is rattled by the growing opposition momentum:

“This is nothing but a diversionary tactic — an attempt by a faltering administration to sow discord within the opposition and derail the momentum gained by the successful unveiling of the ADC.”

His team stressed that no amount of “propaganda, planted stories, or faceless briefings” would derail preparations for the 2027 election, reaffirming the ADC’s growing popularity nationwide.

“The massive and growing support the ADC continues to enjoy across the country is a clear signal that the Tinubu administration is living on borrowed time.”
