Oyo Govt Acquires N7.7bn Surveillance Aircraft to Tackle Insecurity

The Oyo State Executive Council has approved the purchase of two surveillance aircraft worth ₦7.763 billion to strengthen security across the state. Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed the move as part of a broader strategy to curb rising insecurity in all 33 Local Government Areas.

The surveillance aircraft will enhance aerial monitoring and intelligence gathering, complementing ground operations by the police and other security agencies. The government stated that the initiative aligns with its long-term infrastructure and security roadmap, which has previously included patrol vehicles, police housing, and street lighting.

Residents have expressed cautious optimism, urging transparency and efficiency in deployment. Security experts believe the aircraft could significantly improve response time and deter criminal activity if well integrated into the state’s security architecture.
