Lawmaker Exonerates Edo Govt, APC, From Assassination Attempt On Obi

A member of the House of Representatives, Billy Osawaru, representing Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency, Edo State, in Abuja, exonerated the Edo State Government and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, from the assassination attempt on Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, and 2027 potential presidential aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Benin City, Edo State.

Osawaru, in a media interaction in Abuja, dismissed allegations linking the Edo State Government and the All Progressives Congress to the reported attack on Peter Obi and other ADC leaders.

The lawmaker said claims that the attack was sponsored by Governor Monday Okpebholo or the ruling party are false and politically motivated, notying that investigations were ongoing.

Osawaru noted that Obi, who was reportedly attacked alongside former APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, has the right to visit any state, but should coordinate security arrangements.

The lawmaker faulted Peter Uzokwe for premature accusations. He urged political actors to avoid inflammatory statements while awaiting the outcome of investigations.

He condemned violence in the strongest terms, saying no political disagreement was worth the loss of lives and urging all actors to promote peace and tolerance.
