PDP Crisis Deepens as Wike’s Faction Installs New Executives in Oyo, Bayelsa, and Ekiti

By Fly Cable News

The internal crîsis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a fresh turn as a faction loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, installed new state executives across Bayelsa, Ekiti, and Oyo states.

This move follows a Court of Appeal judgment that nullified the convention that produced Tanimu Turaki as national chairman.

In Bayelsa, Alabh Turnah emerged as the state chairman through a consensus arrangement in Yenagoa.

During his acceptance speech, Turnah dismissed claims that the PDP had become an opposition party in the state, insisting that the party remains the dominant force and is ready to retain “Creek Haven” in the 2027 elections.

Similarly, in Ekiti State, Lanre Omolase was elected chairman by the faction supported by Wike and former governor Ayodele Fayose.

Omolase pledged to restore the party to its winning ways, while national caretaker member Bisi Kolawole urged the new leaders to remain loyal to the party structure.

The Oyo State congress held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium saw Abdulrahman Akinoso, a lecturer at the University of Ibadan, emerge as the new chairman.

Akinoso immediately called for unity, noting that the focus must now shift toward the 2027 general elections and the upcoming e-membership registration drive.

However, the Turaki-led National Working Committee has labeled these congresses illegal.

Spokesman Ini Ememobong cautioned that the purported dissolution of state executives is an “affront to reconciliation” and urged party members to ignore the appointments.

As the Wike-backed faction prepares for its own national convention on March 28 in Abuja, the battle for the soul of the PDP intensifies.
