The Minister of Power, Adelabu Adebayo, has tendered his resignation from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet to pursue his political ambition of becoming the Governor of Oyo State.
In a resignation letter dated March 26, 2026, and addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Adelabu expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the administration and contribute to reforms in Nigeria’s power sector.
“I write with profound gratitude to formally tender my resignation as the Honourable Minister of Power, Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the letter stated.
The minister thanked the president for the confidence reposed in him, adding that serving under the administration had been a privilege, particularly in advancing efforts aimed at strengthening the nation’s electricity sector in line with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He explained that his decision to step down was driven by his desire to fully commit to his gubernatorial aspiration in Oyo State, stating that the move would allow him to dedicate his time and resources to his political aspiration. on to resign is to enable me fully pursue my aspiration to contest for the office of Governor of Oyo State,” he added.
It was learnt that development is already generating significant reactions within political circles in Oyo State, where Adelabu is considered one of the frontliners with strong grassroots support likely to clinch the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket.
The minister, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and 2019 APC governorship candidate, is widely regarded as a seasoned administrator with deep experience in both public and private sector governance.
