The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that he has not endorsed any candidate for future political contests in Rivers State, insisting that such decisions rest with party elders.
Wike made this known while addressing a joint gathering of All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party stakeholders from Rivers State at his residence in Abuja, where he warned against the growing rush for endorsements.
He stressed the importance of unity among political actors, saying, “If we were not working together, if we were not united, it would be difficult. People are not happy that we are working together, so they must find anything to make sure we are divided.”
The minister also criticised individuals who, after benefiting from the group’s influence, turned against its leadership.
“Woe be unto the person that we have given an appointment [who] goes back to castigate.”
Speaking on rumours of political endorsements, Wike dismissed such claims and maintained consistency in his position, noting, “Anything I say in the night is what I will say in the daytime.”
He clarified that no endorsements have been made at the state level, adding that such decisions would only come after consultations with party elders.
Wike, however, reaffirmed that the group has only endorsed President Bola Tinubu, stressing that no other candidate has received his backing for now.
