Two Men Jailed for Assaulting LNSC Officer in Baruwa, Ayobo Ipaja of Lagos.

The Magistrate Court 2 in Ejigbo has sentenced two men, Amusa Aminu (28) from Bauchi and Sabiu Samili (M) 25 from Jos, Plateau State to three months’ imprisonment for assaulting a Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Officer and damaging a patrol vehicle at Baruwa, Ipaja.

The incident occurred on August 21, 2025, when an Officer from Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA command was attacked by a mob while performing his lawful duties at the Two-Storey area of Baruwa. Aminu and Samili were apprehended at the scene, while other attackers fled. In the course of the assault, parts of the patrol vehicle were vandalized.

The suspects were arraigned the same day and pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy, unlawful assault, and wilful damage, all contrary to the Criminal Law of Lagos State. The case was adjourned to August 27 for presentation of facts and sentencing.

At the resumed hearing, defence counsel attempted to withdraw the guilty pleas, citing intentions to pursue an out-of-court settlement. The court rejected the application, ruling that the charges had earlier been read and explained to the defendants in Hausa, and that their guilty pleas were voluntary.

The magistrate thereafter convicted both men and sentenced them to three months in prison on each count, with the sentences to run concurrently.

In his reaction, the General Manager of the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency, Prince Dr Ifalade Oyekan, FISN warned members of the Public to stop assaulting law enforcement agents in the course of their duties. “The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu frowns at unruly behaviours with law enforcement agents in the State and will not spare anybody found wanting, no matter how highly placed.
