Edo govt petitions IGP over recent political chaos

The Edo State Government has filed a petition with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun concerning the violent incidents that disrupted law and order on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
The government has accused reinstated Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu of orchestrating the chaos under the guise of enforcing a Federal High Court judgment from Abuja, despite a pending stay of execution and appeal.
The state government alleges that Shaibu hired armed thugs, resulting in the death of Police Inspector Akor Onuh in Benin City.
In a petition signed by State Solicitor General Prof. Faith Osadolor, on behalf of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the government detailed Shaibu’s alleged actions, claiming he recruited heavily armed individuals, including notable figures like Tony Adun (aka Tony Kabaka) and others. These individuals reportedly caused extensive destruction and contributed to the officer’s death.
