FG hands over 64 CNG buses to labour unions, student groups.

The federal government handed over 64 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to representatives of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) as part of Nigeria’s 64th independence celebration. The initiative aims to reduce transportation costs and inflation in the country, supporting President Tinubu’s plan to provide affordable and efficient transport after fuel subsidies were removed.

Finance Minister Wale Edun emphasized the buses would make transport more affordable, with plans to distribute over 500 CNG buses and 100 electric vehicles nationwide. The CNG-powered buses are expected to cut fuel costs by up to two-thirds compared to petrol, and the government assured that the CNG cylinders are safe.

Representatives from TUC, NANS, and NLC praised the initiative and urged the government to provide more CNG buses. They also commended the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage and the government’s commitment to student welfare through a loan scheme.
