LAGFERRY partners LASPARK plant 50 trees to mitigate climate change.

The Lagos State Ferry Service (LAGFERRY) on Thursday partnered with the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) plant trees to mitigate climate change while charging residents to plant trees in their environment. 

The Managing Director, Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY), Hon. Abdulbaqi Ladi Balogun, stated that the collaboration with LASPARK initiatives is part of the objective of Mr. Governor in the THEMES agenda environmental sustainability on climate change. 

“The collaboration with LAGFERRY and LASPARK is to ensure a sustainable environment and greener environment, so what we are doing today is to take advantage of our environment at our premises here at Mile 2 Lagos State Ferry Services and ensure that we plant trees not for today but for future generations.”

“This will add value to our environment and also ensure that the eco system is bringing sustainability to everyone.”

Balogun urged the audience to emulate the state government by planting trees for environmental benefit and the climate change battle.

Speaking with the journalists, the general manager of LASPARK, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola, said the plan is to plant 20,000 trees in Lagos by July next year, in collaboration with LAGFERRY. The trees will be maintained, watered, and cared for to ensure their survival.

“The terminal’s beautification efforts have led to the planting of trees, with LAGFERRY committed to maintaining, watering, and caring for the trees.
This collaboration extends to other MDAs in the Lagos State Government and other agencies.”

Popoola explained that the collaboration is not just for LAGFERRY but also other government agencies and private organisations.” The trees will include Queens farms, shrubs, and coconut trees, with a partnership with the Lagos State Coconut Development Authority to plant 20 trees a year.

According to her, “my team has done soil tests and prepared the soil for planting and has selected coconut palms for the planting. The project has also partnered with private organisations like the UBA Foundation, Water Aid, Pepsi, Fidelity Bank, and Red Centrals.”

The Chairman Branch C’ National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Amuwo Odofin Branch, Prince Abeyi Ajele Abayomi, popularly known as Ikomodina commended LAGFERRY and LASPARK for their environmental efforts and urged them to extend the gesture to other union-owned parks.

Those in attendance for the planting of the trees, a certificate of participation was issued: Hon. Abdulbaqi Ladi Balogun (MD LAGFERRY), Bilikiss Adebiyi (GM, LASRRA), Oluwadamilola Emmanuel (MD, LASWA), Babalola Obilana (DG, Lagos State Pension Commission), Mrs. Doyin Akinyanju (MD, IBILE Oil and Gas), Mrs. Adekanbi Adenike (GM, LASIAMA), Fatai Onafowote (DG, Lagos State Public Procurement Agency), and Olumuyiwa Oshin (ED, Lagos State Pension Commission).

The head of agencies gave the charge on Thursday during planting 50 trees at Mile 2 Ferry Terminal, Lagos’/Badagry motorway.
