Lobbying Efforts Led to Passage of South West Development Commission Bill – Senate Leader
Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, stated that the recent passage of the South West Development Commission Bill was achieved through strategic lobbying. He emphasized that federal lawmakers from the South West worked to secure support from colleagues across other geopolitical zones, recognizing the bill’s importance to the region.
Speaking at the 2024 South West Assembly of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, Bamidele highlighted the strength of the South West APC lawmakers, noting that 15 out of 18 senators from the zone belong to the APC. This majority, he explained, has granted them significant influence within the National Assembly, enabling them to advance initiatives beneficial to the South West.
The South West caucus, he added, effectively used this influence to facilitate the bill’s progress and now awaits the House of Representatives’ concurrence before seeking presidential assent. Bamidele also acknowledged the bipartisan support, noting that lawmakers from other parties played a crucial role in advancing the bill for the region’s benefit.
