Academic Technologists Give Govt 21-Day Ultimatum Over Withheld Salaries

The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding the payment of five and a half months of withheld salaries or facing potential industrial action. This ultimatum follows NAAT’s 56th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Taraba State.

In a letter addressed to the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, signed by NAAT President Comrade Ibeji Nwokoma, the union stated it would not be responsible for any disruption after the ultimatum ends on September 30 if their demands remain unaddressed. The letter was also sent to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The letter highlighted unresolved issues, including the non-release of a circular on CONTISS 14 & 15 for NAAT members, unpaid arrears from a minimum wage increase, and salary increments from 2023. It also pointed to inadequate facilities, outdated equipment, and a lack of training for academic technologists.

NAAT warned that if no action is taken by the end of the three-week period, they will proceed with an industrial strike without further notice.
