Ozekhome Urges Special Budget for IDPs, Warns of Future Security Risks
Chief Mike Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has called on the Federal Government to allocate a special budget for vulnerable people in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. During a visit to the Durumi IDP camp in Abuja to mark his 67th birthday, Ozekhome stressed the need for a yearly budget to support society’s most vulnerable.
He warned that without such interventions, marginalized groups might feel compelled to take up arms, as they grow resentful of being denied basic rights and opportunities. Ozekhome emphasized that addressing the needs of the displaced is crucial to building a just and equitable society, citing the Nigerian Constitution’s mandate to ensure citizens’ welfare and security.
