TCN Establishes New Anti-Corruption Unit to Enhance Operational Transparency

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has officially launched an Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) to foster transparency and integrity in its operations.

At the inauguration ceremony held in Abuja on Tuesday, TCN’s Managing Director, Engr. Sule Abdulaziz, urged employees to stay committed to delivering efficient power services to Nigerians.

Speaking through Mrs. Abiodun Afolabi, Executive Director of Human Resources and Corporate Services, Abdulaziz highlighted the significance of integrity in TCN’s function of linking generation plants with distribution companies in Nigeria’s electricity supply chain. He explained that the newly formed unit would assist the company in identifying and mitigating potential risks.

“Some may question the unit’s contribution to TCN and its operational impact. The core objectives of the ACTU include enhancing transparency in our processes by identifying potential risks and inefficiencies that could obstruct our ability to meet the increasing demands of the power sector,” Abdulaziz stated.

He further noted, “The ACTU will serve as a reference point for ethics and compliance, ensuring that our decision-making processes align with TCN’s vision of accountability and integrity. This will ultimately strengthen public confidence in our capacity to fulfill our mandate ethically and effectively.”

Dr. Musa Aliyu, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), represented by Olusegun Adigun, Director of the System Studies and Review Department, reaffirmed the commission’s dedication to promoting transparency and accountability within public service.

Aliyu explained that the ACTU, an initiative of the ICPC, functions as an internal mechanism for preventing corruption, aligned with global best practices. He emphasized that the unit supports the ICPC’s efforts in building robust institutions and fostering accountability across government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria must not only act responsibly but also ensure that its members are diligent, responsive, and dedicated to their roles,” Aliyu added.

In her comments, Bembo Erakevwe, Chairman of TCN’s ACTU, committed the unit to upholding the Code of Ethics and striving for a more transparent and accountable TCN.
